They have a saying “go big or go home.”  That pretty much means that show up and give everything your best shot.  One serial art thief has taken that to a whole new level.

Thirty-year-old mark Lugo is a thief.  His primary target is high-end artwork.  Anyone following the news recently has to have heard about the Hoboken-resident who was arrested after stealing an original sketch by Pablo Picasso.  Lugo, 30, allegedly walked out of the Weinstein Gallery on July 5 with a 1965 Picasso sketch, "Tête de Femme (Head of a Woman)," under his arm. The Geary Street gallery had been selling the sketch for more than $200,000.

Lugo is currently sitting in a San Francisco jail and is not likely to get out soon as the judge set bail at $5 million.

Serial Thief Probably Needs Alcohol Awareness Class Too

Why would this guy try and plead not guilty?  Not only was there video surveillance of him walking out with the artwork but a search of his apartment proves this illegal activity is a regular hobby for this guy.

A police raid on Lugo's Hoboken, N.J., apartment turned up 11 pieces of art stolen from galleries and hotels in Manhattan over the past month, including a Picasso etching from 1933.

The estimated the combined value of the stolen artwork, which also included a Jean-Michael Basquiat photo and Fernand Léger sketch, to be about $500,000.

Lugo was charged in April with stealing three bottles of wine worth $6,000 from a store in Wayne, N.J. He failed to appear at his June 9 court date.  Hmm, perhaps a long stay in a federal penitentiary will rehabilitate him.
